Let's hear it for the boys!

And girls

Yesterday, California overturned it's Prop 8 ban on gay marriage. Prop 8, or the California Marriage Protection Act, was a voter-approved ballot that took place during the November 2008 elections. The voting reversed the prior California Supreme Court ruling that gay couples had a constitutional right to marry. The Chief US District Judge Vaughn Walker who overturned the ban wrote: "The evidence shows that Prop. 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California constitution, the notion that opposite sex couples are superior to same sex couples." With that (and probably a little bit more), the ban was overturned!

I was thrilled to hear of this news as I find it disgusting that our constitution discusses equality yet so many are still discriminated against. I have heard many argue that legalizing gay marriage will ruin the sanctity of marriage, and all I can say to them is, "what sanctity?"
Britney Spears went off to Vegas and married her high school friend Jason Allen Alexander (which lasted 2 days), just for fun.Tiger Woods cheated on his wife with pretty much the entire staff of Vivid Entertainment. Charlie Sheen was hiring "female escorts" while Denise Richards was 8 months pregnant with their second child. Roughly 76% of marriages have dealt with adultery, and the divorce rate is at an all time high of 50%. Need I say more?

If two people share a love for one another and want to be fully committed to each other, why should they be stopped? We all live in America to have a free and just life. And I for one am glad that our country continues to make strides (be they small) for further equality.
